But where should we take our photos?
I know this is a common question and thought when trying to plan a photo session. First question is - do you want to go to a beach or a park?! Both settings are stunning but very different feels! I, personally, don't feel that you can go wrong with either. But, they do have different vibes.
Why do the beach?
We live in the beautiful Jacksonville, Florida! We are so lucky to have these gorgeous beaches right here in our home. You cannot go wrong with beach photos.
Sunrise lighting is absolutely gorgeous and so worth waking up for. I will absolutely wake up for this with you! The sun peeks up over the horizon and the beautiful rays raising up are stunning. The weather is usually more predictable, and kids tend to be less grumpy at sunrise. You really cannot go wrong - and you can go out for a nice breakfast after!
Sunset is also stunning at the beach. Here, in Jacksonville, FL, the sun sets behind the beach since our beach is facing east. Many nights, we will get beautiful pink and purple skies from the sun setting. Even when it is cloudy out, the way the sun hits the clouds gives a gorgeous glow.
I do not recommend midday photographs at the beach on a nice sunny day. This is the downfall in scheduling as the bright midday sun is very harsh and not flattering.
Why photograph at a park setting?
Parks are gorgeous and the greenery with hanging moss and beautiful trees are hard to beat! I dare say the photos are slightly 'moodier' with green trees in the background instead of white sand. You can still have light and airy photos - do not get me wrong there!
The other nice thing about most parks is that the time of day is more flexible. I still prefer sunset with the sun peeking through the trees, but the shade gives beautiful lighting all day and is not harsh like full sun at the beach.
